Verso can't say that he's horrible at driving. He would say that he's out of practice and also mediocre at best. Although, the tickets that are piling up in his glove box might beg to differ (and those are the tickets that his charm and smiles weren't able to allow him to escape with a warning).
But as he thinks on these things, he comes to a conclusion. Huh. I might be a bad driver.
A casual thought that he has as he arrives at the destination (thanks GPS). And the car skids along the curb, but at least it doesn't pop up onto the curb. Progress! Somehow, he found that he had an easier time explaining how to drive to someone than driving himself. He feels that's a little unfair, but he isn't sure who to bring his complaint to - so he lodges it with no one.
"Still looking forward to the movie?"
It's what he casually calls as he steps out of the car to wave to her.
The park means more space (and less Gustave) yet somehow there's still the sound of rubber against concrete. Maelle winces, but at least no one is hurt. Not like they need to preserve the tires or anything. They'll be back in Etraya before long.
"Of course," she says, and it feels like it's been a long time since she's seen Verso. She makes the executive decision that he'll have to endure a hug from her, and so she hops over to him to throw her arms around his waist. "Hi."
His eyes widen at the sudden hug. It's a brief second that he humors the idea of not accepting, but he can't continue to be cold to Maelle. The reason for his responses won't make any sense, anyway. He also doesn't want her to wake from herself, either.
(Is doing any of this cruel or kind? Would it undo what's been done? Can she stay as Maelle? Should she? Can he figure out a way to have her live without him? Will she remain like this until their world is saved? Then what? Will she never return home? So many thoughts, so many questions -- he doesn't know the answer to any of them.)
But it's still a beat before he gently wraps his arms around her shoulders, giving a small little hug back. "Hi. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that you missed me."
A beat and wider smile. "But that can't be true because there's so much to do to occupy the mind and any sense of missing, no?"
"I can multitask," she says proudly, joking, and lets him go. Yet she's sincere as she continues, "I did miss you. I missed you while doing things, so I'm glad we're going to do things together."
She doesn't know a world where she doesn't miss either Gustave or Verso at any given moment. She misses Gustave now, worried about him always, but she's happy to spend time with Verso after what felt like a year apart. And when she's with Gustave, she does miss Verso and his humor. She feels constantly at odds.
For now, she tells herself Gustave is fine and she's with Verso and they're going to have fun and it's as simple as that.

Which means we should do it right away before we're force to really buckle down for this mission of ours.

And yes, I know how to drive it. Maybe even better than Sciel.
